Implemented with assistance from the Cumberland County Soil & Water Conservation District
Develop and implement a cost-effective, environmentally-responsible, and equitable plan for restoring and protecting Long Creek and its watershed.
The Long Creek Restoration Project began in 2007 as a collaborative, community-based initiative convened by the City of South Portland and led by a Steering Committee made up of representatives from the four Long Creek watershed municipalities (South Portland, Portland, Westbrook and Scarborough), area businesses, non-profit organizations, and state agencies. The City of South Portland obtained a grant from United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to partner with the other watershed municipalities and individual stakeholders in this effort.
