Philbrook Avenue Retrofits
Improvements on Philbrook Ave were completed in two phases. The first phase of the project modified the existing drainage system to store runoff and remove pollutants. The second phase of the project established 2,000 feet of stream-side vegetation to provide wildlife habitat and food for aquatic animals, while shading the stream to moderate its temperature.
Funding for this work was provided by the American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009, which was administered by Maine's Clean Water Revolving Fund program. Project partners included General Grown Properties, Hampton Inn, EconoLodge, City of South Portland, South Portland Land Trust, White Brothers Construction, Bourne Landscaping, and community volunteers.
