Porous pavement is an important urban stormwater BMP.
Ever wonder why water acts differently on Maine Mall Road? That’s because it’s porous pavement, which means water can soak through the pavement into the ground instead of running on top of the pavement and creating stormwater. This month Maine DOT replaced the 10-year old porous pavement (an impressive age for heavy use roads) on Maine Mall Road with new porous pavement to revitalize its stormwater BMP functions as part of the Long Creek Watershed Management District's restoration of Long Creek.
