Slow and steady baseflow keeps Long Creek going during dry summer months.
During dry summers, Long Creek water levels can get low and many plants and animals that rely on the creek are impacted. Thankfully, we have a retrofitted detention pond to help store water to extend the baseflow of Long Creek during these dry times. This extra water also helps keep the stream cooler and has more dissolved oxygen for stressed fish, aquatic insects, and plants. At the end of the summer, we release any extra stored water in our detention pond so it can flow into Long Creek.
