2026 Maintenance Season Underway
The Long Creek Watershed Management District’s inspection, maintenance, and monitoring contractors are beginning work for the season. The District completed a competitive bidding process for its major services contracts over the past winter. The current slate of contractors is as follows:
Pavement Sweeping: Maritime Farms & Land Management, LLC, based in Windham, returns as the District’s pavement sweeping contractor. Based on a review of water quality data, it was determined that the most effective sweeping performed by the District is the spring cleanup. Therefore, the District will only perform the spring clean-up sweeping event for the foreseeable future.
Catch Basin Inspection and Cleaning: Maine Hydro-Vac Services, LLC, based in Windham, is a new service provider to the District. Based on data collected in prior seasons, it was determined that the District will perform maintenance on half, rather than all, of the approximately 765 catch basins management by the District on an annual basis.
Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance: Stormwater Compliance, LLC, based in Gorham, is a new service provider to the District. They will be inspecting, maintaining, and performing landscaping for the District’s structural BMP’s and stream restoration areas.
Water Quality Monitoring: GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., based in South Portland, returns as the District’s water quality monitoring contractor. They will be implementing the various aspects of the Long Creek Monitoring Plan throughout the monitoring season from March to November.
Changes to the scopes of work for the District’s major service contracts, and the results of the competitive bidding process, will allow the District to allocate funds to other restoration efforts while maintaining current funding levels.
Whenever possible, contractors will perform work close to buildings and busy parking areas early in the day to minimize interference with your tenants, customers, patients, and visitors.
